Synopsis: “Dangerous. Wrong. She could be so close to finding out who I really am, and I don’t want to think about how badly that could damage her. If I have any conscience,
I’ll turn and run. But I can’t let her go.”
Presley Hale has no idea the guy she just told off in the school parking lot died in a drowning accident four months ago. Why would she? It’s not like she knows she can see the dead. Stunned by Presley’s sixth sense, Landon Blackwood rethinks his planned departure and begins tracking her to find answers to their mysterious connection.
When their complicated relationship turns dangerous, they learn that tampering with the boundaries of death comes with consequences. Can Landon save Presley from the insidious spirits who have marked her for death, or was their love doomed from the beginning? (Goodreads)
First, let me inform you (in case you have never read my blog before), I am not a ghost person. In fact, I have never read a book, EVER, where a character is a ghost or ghosts are involved. I mean, Field of Dreams with Kevin Costner is almost too much because he hears “if you build it, they will come.” Ummm, creepy? Yes. Don’t even get me started on Sixth Sense.
Teaser #1: But now, a new yearning burned in me, consuming my thoughts. As selfish and crazy as it was, I wanted to be with Presley.
That being said, I really couldn’t put the book down. The conflict was set up so well that I literally had to keep reading just to know how it all worked out.
This book is VERY reminiscent of Twilight. So much so, that when the authors were interviewed on a Las Vegas news show, he called it the next Twilight. You can see that interview HERE.
A big difference, however, is that no one can see Landon but Presley.
I think I gave it 4 stars because of the similarities. I recently re-read Twilight so reading Beyond pointed out all the similarities and I wasn’t expecting that. Some were just too similar. But a 4 is pretty dang good in my book. Check out my rating system HERE.
But, like I said, the premise, the conflict, the characters, their stories, everything is so well weaved together that the book pulls off amazingly well.
Teaser #2: His eyes poured into mine and he leaned over to whisper against my lips, “I won’t let go either.”
As a book 1 in a series, I think the authors ended this book well. BARELY. But to avoid spoilers I won’t say more. Just know I wanted to scream at the book and throw it across the room and never open it again. But, I have since calmed. I have my emotions in check. And I finally read the last page… which redeemed itself, barely.
Now, I CAN’T WAIT for book 2. I mean, literally can’t wait! I will be begging the authors for an ARC just so that I can keep reading about these characters I’ve fallen in love with.
My Recommendation: GO READ THIS BOOK!
